 ABOUT BLUE RIDGE LAKE :

Blue Ridge Lake is fed by the Toccoa River.  The Toccoa River great for recreational activities such as fishing, tubing or kayaking.  For fishing it is noted for trout, bass, and sunfish.  You can fish or tube above or below the dam.

The Toccoa river flows through the southern Appalachian Mountains.  The Toccoa River feeds into Blue Ridge Lake.  TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority)controls Blue Ridge Dam which is what creates the 3,300 acre Blue Ridge lake.  Blue Ridge Dam completed construction in 1930.  It is 167 feet high and 1,000 feet wide.  TVA uses the dam to to produce hydroelectric power.  In a normal year the water level in the lake will vary 20 feet.

80 percent of the Blue Ridge Lake shoreline is managed by Forest Service and is a part of the Chattahoochee National Forest.  Blue Ridge Lake has one marina, several boat ramps, and Morganton Point offers a campground and public swimming area.  Blue Ridge Lake is great for fishing, swimming, water-sports, going out on a boat or just relax and enjoy the scenery.   The mountain/lake combination is very beautiful and picturesque.  Listings on Blue Ridge Lake are available to view on my website.  I can also set you up for email updates of new Blue Ridge Lake properties or riverfront properties.

From the dam the Toccoa River flows Northwest towards Tennessee.  Once the passes the Tennessee state line it becomes the Ocoee River.  The Ocoee River is known for whitewater rafting.  You can raft the upper or Middle Ocoee.  The middle section is the most popular for family fun or group outings.  It is a class 3 and 4 stretch with consistent rapids and breathtaking scenery.  The upper Ocoee has the whitewater Olympic section where the Olympics were hosted for whitewater slalom events in 1996.  The Olympic section has rapids that are considered class 5.  I was once a river guide on the Ocoee and can tell you that whitewater rafting on this river is great fun so you may want to give it a shot if you are looking for a little adventure while in the area.
